A GROUP of youngsters with a variety of disabilities completed a one-mile run.

A group of youngsters from Barrow youth service YouthAbility joined forces with boxers from the Barrow ABC to take part in the Dalton  fun run.

Jeff Moses, head boxing coach at Barrow ABC, took a group of kids from their YouthAbility Boxabilty sessions which launched in January to take part in the event and represent the team.

He said: “Every year we always support the mile run runs and 10k runs over Barrow, Dalton and Ulverston running clubs through the gym so it gives all the team a chance to do something competitive outside of boxing but still represent the club.

“We are working with the boxability disability group and decided to take 20 kids along to run for the day. This gave them something different to take part and work as part of a team and supporting stuff that is going on in the community.

“Every kid got a medal and a t-shirt. It was a massive achievement and they should all be really proud.”

Youthability Projet manager Les Mcleese said: “Youthability’s partner project boxability joined forces with Barrow ABC to take part in the Dalton one mile fun run. It has been a long time since we have taken part in any kind of event like this due to the pandemic.

“We had just over 20 young people with a variety of abilities including handcycles take part.

“It was great seeing the smiles on the young people’s faces achieving something new.

“It was also great to see our young people taking part with all different groups and demonstrating community organisation working together.”
